Depending on your market you may know this category as flood boards (UK), removable flood panels or garage flood barriers — same system, same parts.

One boundary before anything else: a flood gate protects a defined opening. It earns its money when the door or garage really is where the water comes in — not when water rises through the slab, the soil or the drains, and not when the wall around the opening is itself porous. Two wall channels and a short stack — the bread-and-butter configuration.

The system, part by part

Planks. Extruded aluminum profiles, 180 mm per plank, stacked to your protection height. Alloy and temper are the numbers to ask any supplier for — ours: 6063-T6, wall thickness ≥2.0 mm. A supplier who won't name alloy and wall thickness is telling you something.
Seals. EPDM rubber on every horizontal joint and at the base — compression sealing, the same principle the category has used for decades. Replacement seals sold separately, forever.
Posts, three ways. Wall-mounted channels (openings with sound reveals), ground-socket posts (wide openings, removable — nothing above ground off-season), and freestanding posts for runs where nothing may be drilled.
Top clamps / tensioners. Screw-down clamps at the posts lock the stack tight so planks can't lift or rattle — exact form confirmed per configuration at quotation.

Configurations

Single opening — doorways, garage doors: two channels + planks. The bread-and-butter configuration.
Wide spans — beyond roughly 3 m, intermediate ground-socket posts split the span. We quote post count from your opening width and protection height — water load grows with the square of depth, so the same span doesn't hold at every height.
Perimeter runs — corner posts take the system around building lines; combined with boxwall where fixing isn't allowed.
Custom-cut, always. Every order is cut to your opening schedule — send widths and heights (photos and drawings welcome), we deliver planks per opening, labelled. From tested profiles, per approved drawings; we don't do site engineering or stamped drawings, and we say so upfront.

What determines your price

Total plank metres — width × stacked height across all openings; the single biggest driver.
Post count and type — ground sockets cost more than wall channels; wide spans add posts.
Cut list complexity — ten identical garage kits quote cheaper per metre than ten different openings; both are normal.
Finish and branding — anodising and plank marking are line items, quoted before you commit.

FAQ

Flood gate, flood barrier, flood panels — what's the difference?

Mostly market vocabulary. A flood gate (or flood boards, flood panels, demountable barrier) protects a defined opening — this system. Flood barrier is the umbrella term, and often means freestanding perimeter products like our ABS boxwall. Same physics, different mounting: gates fix to the opening once and then deploy in minutes each season; freestanding barriers fix to nothing at all. Unsure which your site needs? How high can it protect?

Planks stack to 1.8 m as standard. Above that, engineering review applies — we'll say honestly when an opening needs more than a demountable system.

What about wide garage doors and loading docks?

Spans beyond ~3 m take a removable intermediate post in a ground socket. Off-season, the socket sits flush — nothing above ground.

Aluminum at a coastal site — corrosion?

Aluminum with EPDM lives fine inland for decades. Salt air accelerates wear on any aluminum system over the long term; for coastal specs we'll quote FRP composite planks alongside, and tell you the honest trade-off.

What stays on the building off-season?

Wall-mounted channels stay in the reveal (low-profile, paintable). Ground sockets sit flush with the surface — nothing above ground. Freestanding posts leave nothing at all. We tell you which fixings are permanent before you order, not after.

Who installs it?

Your side — we're supply-only. We provide drawings, fixing specifications, manuals and responsive support for your installer or contractor.

What's the warranty?

3 years on materials and workmanship. Custom-cut items are final sale — measure carefully, and use our RFQ review before you commit.
